Now Playing: City of Angels!

I had a blast taking these press photos for Live Arts!  The show is sure to be a huge success!!!

It may be cold outside, but baby, it’ll be sizzling-hot in the Gibson Theater with CITY OF ANGELS; a jazzy musical romp featuring the stylings of composer Cy Coleman (SWEET CHARITY, I LOVE MY WIFE), lyrics by David Zippel (THE GOODBYE GIRL), and the snappy dialogue of Larry Gelbert (M*A*S*H, TOOTSIE, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM).
Winner of 6 Tony Awards including Best Musical and the 2015 Olivier Award winner for Best Musical Revival, CITY OF ANGELS is a witty and delicious celebration of film noir.  Right before your eyes, the show interweaves the glossy Technicolor Hollywood of 1940s screenwriter, Stine, with the black & white gritty world of his film noir detective hero, Stone.  When their worlds collide, the results are wickedly funny and sinfully delectable.               http://www.livearts.org/cityofangels/

Meals on Wheels.

I'm not really sure how many meals this volunteer put together while I was there, hundreds? Does everyone know of this fine organization? Let me tell you...Meals on Wheels of Charlotesville/Albemarle deliver hot, nutritious meals to the ill, aging and convalescing residents who find it hard, or impossible to fix the meals on their own.

http://www.cvillemeals.org/

From their website:
Meals are delivered at lunchtime every Monday through Friday, including all holidays that fall on weekdays. We currently have an active volunteer force of over 250 and serve meals to approximately 275 clients in the city of Charlottesville and the county of Albemarle.
As an independent, local organization, Meals on Wheels receives no state or federal funding for its operating budget. Instead, Meals on Wheels relies on contributions from individuals, businesses, and organizations in our community to support its home-delivered meals program. Some clients can pay the full cost of their meals and the Jefferson Area Board for Aging (JABA) provides subsidies for certain individuals over age 60 who meet their eligibility requirements, but the vast majority of our clients receive meals paid for through community contributions made directly to Meals on Wheels.
Meals are prepared under the supervision of a registered dietician and each client's dietary needs are met. Medically appropriate diets are available including diabetic, renal, sodium restricted, heart healthy, vegetarian and soft or pureed food.
Meals on Wheels is happy to be able to provide special services for our recipients.  In the fall, we deliver our “blizzard bags” which include several days' worth of nonperishable food to use if and when hot meals cannot be delivered because of inclement weather.  We celebrate most holidays with tray favors, all client birthdays with gifts & cards, and Christmas with gifts. Through a client bulletin we distribute information about free services available in the community. These extras would not be possible without the generous help we've received through the years from volunteers, local businesses and community groups.
Meals on Wheels provides a source of daily social contact for people who would otherwise be alone. It also allows for earlier release from hospitals and long term care facilities and helps keep elderly and disabled persons out of institutions altogether. It can help older married couples to remain together and gives many people the opportunity to live in their own homes for longer periods of time. Because volunteers check on meal recipients every day, people who live alone can feel safe, knowing that someone would notice if anything were to happen to them.

Nice guy on TV, nice guy in person!

I met (and photographed) Charlottesville's long time weatherman for NBC29, Norm Sprouse.  In this case I can tell, he is as nice in person as he is on television, thanks Norm!

Bernie Sanders in town!

Vermont Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie spoke in Charlottesville last night at The Trinity Presbyterian Church. Sanders is the ranking member of the Senate budget committee.  The place was packed, the crowd was cheering and the message was clear.  Best of luck Bernie!

Press conference from C'ville's Chief of Police, Tim Longo.

That Rolling Stone article certainly shocked this town.  Now the investigation has been suspended. According to the the Chief they can't prove that it happened as reported by Rolling Stone, but it appears that something happened.

Weird accordion lady on the mall.

Actually, she was kind of cool doing a mime and song routine.  She did get a fair amount of attention and what appeared to be a decent amount of bucks in the case.  The Festival of the Book + spring  + strange robotic pantomimes.  Just can't make this stuff up.  Welcome to C-ville...enjoy!

Making mayonnaise & conversation.

I met Leni Sorensen of White Hall for an upcoming piece in C'ville Weekly.  Leni, a culinary historian, teacher, consultant and speaker, made me homemade mayo.  The mayonnaise was wonderful, but more so was the conversation about gardens, growing your own, canning, GMO's and rural life in general.  The home was marvelously old world and had the greatest aroma coming from the wood stove.  If you are interested in food, history and making a cultural connection from the past to the future, please visit her website.  Log on, see what Leni can teach you!!!  http://www.indigohouse.us/

A spring hike in February.

What a lovely day it was today.  I went on a hike and took along my lil' lady Morgan.  For those local folks who've never traveled the Crozet trails, you don't know what you are missing.

Solidarity for France!

A moving turn out with over 40 people from Charlottesville walk in silence on the downtown mall as a show of solidarity for the people of France.  Glad I was there to meet (and photograph) some of these folks.  It was truly a splendid moment and I wish them well - Ron.

From NBC 29 - Eva Josserand, an au pair from France living in Albemarle County, is firing back with action and words. Josserand is organizing a walk by the Freedom of Speech Wall on Charlottesville's Downtown Mall at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 10.
"For France, and to just pay tribute to the people who died. It's a good way to be here and walk with us," she said.
